Obituary: The Stage, Thursday 18 October 1956, Page 13 (accessed on The British Newspaper Archive website, 29 March 2024):
“EDITH FURMEDGE, the contralto, who died recently, was well known as a Wagnerian singer before the war, particularly as Edra and Fricka in the Covent Garden cycles of “The Ring”. She also appeared in the 1948 and 1949 seasons. Originally trained as a teacher, she took up singing while at Cambridge, and her rich, powerful voice attracted the attention of Sir Henry Wood, for whom she sang regularly. She taught for many years in the school founded in London by her husband, Dinh Gilly, who died in 1940.”
