William’s mother’s maiden name is unrecorded in the GRO Birth Index indicating that he was illegitimate. His baptism register entry however records him as the son of William and Mary Ann Furmage of 21, Tweed Street. His birth date appears in the margin of the baptism register but is only partially visible in the digital image.
He died aged 4 years old at Collingbourne Ducis, Wiltshire. The burial register records in the margin that he is the “son of Mary Ann Furmage. See Bapt Reg 9, No. 676”. The baptism register reference is for Mary Ann’s baptism and confirms he is the son of Mary Ann Furmage, daughter of John Furmage and Jane Barlow. Mary Ann was not married at the time of his birth or death.
