  • Notes 
    • Based on a review of the GRO England & Wales Birth Index May and Richard George Constable had one child, a daughter, born in 1940. Richard died in 1945. By the time of May’s father’s death in 1951, May and her family were living in Singapore, Malaysia (“Deaths”, Portsmouth Evening News, 19 July 1951, Page 10). May’s re-marriage in 1948 is supported by a passenger list for the “Empire Windrush”, New Zealand Shipping Company Limited, sailing from Southampton to Singapore on 24th January 1951 which includes May Balloch, aged 32, a housewife, her 1 year old daughter (surname “Balloch”) and her 10 year old daughter (surname “Constable”), all of whom were previously resident at 25, Winchester Road, Buckland in Portsmouth (BT27, The National Archives accessed on www.findmypast.co.uk).
