- The last will and testament of William Furmedge of the Bell and Crown Inn, St Maurice, Winchester, Hampshire, Inn Keeper and Carrier was written 30th November 1844. He assigned his son, William John Furmedge and his friends, Joseph Dowling and Henry Howard as his executors. He made bequests: (1) To his wife, Jane, that she should carry on his business as Inn Keeper or, if the business was sold, to receive a half-yearly sum for her upkeep and the upkeep of any children under 21 years old. (2) To his children (except his son William John) an equal share of any monies arising from the sale of his property. (3) To his son, William John, his freehold messuage / dwelling house and garden in Southgate Road, St Thomas, Winchester. (4) To his son, Charles Richard, his freehold messuage / dwelling house and garden in Southgate Road, St Thomas, Winchester adjoining that bequeathed to his son, William John.
