| Notes |
- Electoral Registers for Townsville, Queensland, Australia for 1939, 1949 and 1959 show both Archibald William and Emma Rose Campbell living at 50, Seventh Street, Townsville; Archibald’s occupation is recorded as Labourer (note: these records were accessed on www.findmypast.co.uk; the Electoral roll for 1939 was a digital image however those for 1949 and 1959 were transcripts). Seventh Street was the residence of Emma Rose on her marriage certificate.
The marriage certificate for Archibald and Emma Rose records his residence at the time as Sturt Street, Townsville, his occupation as Labourer and his parents as John Campbell, a stock inspector, and Mary Burns. The certificate records that Archibald was born at Tweed Heads, New South Wales, which was in the Murwillumbah registration district, in about 1900.
A birth index entry was identified for an Archie W Campbell, b. 1905 in the Murwillumbah registration district, parents: John and Mary E Campbell. This is the only entry registered in Murwillumbah between 1895 and 1910 for either an Archibald or Archie, with or without a middle name William (source: https://familyhistory.bdm.nsw.gov.au).
An obituary was published in the Tribune (03 April 1968) for an Archibald William “Duffy” Campbell who died in Townsville on 19 March 1968. Unfortunately, the obituary does not include any details of his family and it cannot be confirmed that this is the same Archibald William Campbell who married Emma Rose Furmedge, although it seems possible. An “Archie William Campbell” is buried in the Belgian Gardens Cemetery, Townsville (the same cemetery in which Emma’s older brother Harry is buried), who died 19 March 1968 and appears to be the same man as named in the obituary. His age at death is recorded as 62 years and he would therefore have been born in about 1902. The death index records his parents’ names as William Campbell (not John, as previously) and Mary Elizabeth Burns. Whilst his father’s first name is different, the mother’s name appears consistent with the birth and marriage records.
