| Notes |
- The last will and testament of John Furmedge, Esquire of Broadway, Dorset was made 8th April 1882 assigning John Roberts Furmedge (his son), Thomas Ffooks (Esquire of Totnell, Leigh, Dorset) and Charles Thomas Hall (Esquire of Osmington, Dorset) as Executors.
Bequests were: (1) All of his household furniture, horses, carriages and other effects to be divided between his four daughters (Mary Ann, Jane, Anna Louisa and Elizabeth Roberts) and all liquors and provisions to whichever of his daughters was living with him at the time of his death; (2) His Messages, Lands and Hereditaments in Broadmayne, Dorset to his eldest son John Roberts Furmedge**; (3) That John Roberts Furmedge and successive owners of the Broadmayne estate properly maintain and clothe his daughter Martha Furmedge either at the Earlswood Asylum or any other similar asylum; (4) All his Messages, Lands and Hereditaments in Broadway, Dorset and also the Freeshare of two acres in Rodden Mead, Abbotsbury, Dorset to his four elder daughters as tenants in common; (5) The residue of his personal estate to his Executors to administer, or dispose of, and hold in trust for his four elder daughters.
** Subject to the payment of £6,000 (principal) plus interest charged on part of the hereditaments through an indenture of 09 Oct 1872, made between John Furmedge, William Hosford, John Roberts Furmedge (eldest son), Lucy Wilmer Thompson, William Lawson Thompson and Charles Augustus Gosnell as settlement on the marriage of John Roberts Furmedge and Lucy Wilmer Thompson; also subject to a lease dated 10 Oct 1872 granted to John Roberts Furmedge for 99 years on consideration of a yearly rental and his payments of the interest; the lease to pass to his children on his death in equal shares.
The will also states “I have not given anything to my wife by my will as she is otherwise well provided for and I have every confidence in my children that they will take care of her and provide her with whatever she requires for her comfort and happiness.”
The will was witnessed by James Rowe and Henry Childs both at the Royal Hotel, Weymouth, Dorset. John Furmedge died at Broadway on 8th April 1883 and his will proved at Blandford 4th June 1883.
