- Joseph Harold’s entry in the baptism register records his date of birth as 9th December 1900 however this is after his baptism date; the order of the entries in the register suggests that the correct date of baptism has been entered and that he was born in 1899. His birth date recorded in the 1939 Register and GRO Death Index is 7th December 1899.
Joseph and Eva’s entry in the parish marriage register in 1922 records Joseph’s occupation as that of soldier and his residence as the Fulford Barracks in York, Depot of the West Yorkshire Regiment. He was awarded the General Service Medal in reference to operations in Kurdistan. Based on his children’s birth locations it appears that he was in India circa.1928. In 1935 he enlisted with the Royal Engineers as a Sapper and served until discharged in June 1939.
