  • Notes 
    • George Furmidge joined the Royal Navy on 13 June 1881 as a Boy (2nd class). His date of birth is recorded as 24 June 1865 [sic.] and his place of birth as Arreton on the Isle of Wight. He completed service with the rank of Petty Officer. He joined H.M. Coastguard Service and was based in Ireland from about 1893 to 1914. He was recalled at the outbreak of war and was at the Battle of Jutland (10 Aug 1915 to 09 Sep 1916) on HMS Canada. He was demobilised in July 1919. (The National Archives: ADM 188 / 146 / 115591).
