Notes

William Edward Furmidge records his occupation as ship’s fireman in the 1911 England census (Class: RG14, Piece: 5731, Schedule: 67) and he was in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, Mine Clearing Service, as a leading stoker from April to September 1919 (The National Archives: ADM 337, Piece: 101, Document: 307). He was in the merchant service in the 1920’s and through to at least 1939 and records his occupation as second engineer in the 1939 Register (The National Archives: BT 348 & BT 349).
