    • The baptism register (St Mark’s, St Helier, 1874) records Joseph Jeffery Furmedge’s date of birth as 28 January 1862 however he is recorded (as Joseph Geoffrey Furmedge) in the Superintendent Registrar St Helier Birth Index for the period covering 17-Aug-1860 to 30-Sep-1861 suggesting that he may have been born earlier. The entry in the 1861 Channel Islands census for his family includes Joseph Furmedge, born St Helier, Jersey age 2 months. As the 1861 census was take on 7th April 1861, this implies that Joseph was born Jan-Feb 1861 and it has been assumed that the correct date of birth is more likely 28 January 1861. This error is reasonable given the length of time between the birth and the baptism events.
