| Notes |
- The 1861 Canada West Census records that Samuel Furmidge and Jane McGregor married in 1852. This record also shows a child, Sarah, born in Canada in about 1854. Whilst the country and place of marriage have not been established, based on this census data it appears likely that Samuel and Jane came to Canada independently and that they met and married in Canada.
The 1900 US Federal Population Census records Jane Furmidge as a widow, living with two of her children in North Tonawanda, Niagara County, New York. It records that she emigrated from Canada to the USA in 1888 and it seems likely that Samuel also emigrated with Jane around this time. Unfortunately the 1890 US Federal Population Census for Niagara county was destroyed by fire and so there is no confirmatory record (located to date) of an emigration year for Samuel. The 1900 US Federal Population Census also records that Samuel and Jane had 10 children of which 6 were alive in 1900.
The only record of Samuel’s death identified is a memorial at Sweeney Cemetery, North Tonawanda, Niagara County on the Find A Grave website. It records that he was “struck by a train”.
