    • Emily is living with her grandparents, John and Mary Ann Buttle, in the 1871 and 1881 England census. Her father, William Henry Copp had married her mother, Edith Buttle in 1863 however her father had then died in April 1865. At the time of her baptism Emily and her mother were resident at the Union Workhouse in Great Torrington. Her mother, Edith, re-married in 1870.
