The earliest census recording William and Mary as married is the 1861 England census (Churchyard, Last St Mary, Wareham, Dorset: Class: RG9, Piece: 1345, Folio: 19, Page: 32). The eldest child recorded in this census is George Furmage, born about 1852 in Wareham, Dorset, however in the 1881 England census George is recorded as a step-son and has the surname Churchill (Church Lane, Last St Mary, Wareham, Dorset: Class: RG11, Piece: 2100, Folio: 16, Page: 23). The next eldest child is William Furmage born in about 1854. This suggests that William and Mary were a couple from about the first half of the 1850s.
