    • Charles’ surname is recorded as Furmidge in the GRO Birth Index but as Furmage in his baptism register entry.

      Charles served with the Royal Navy, joining as a Boy (2nd class) on 14 August 1882. He was discharged (pensioned) on 20 June 1905. The last few years of his service (Jun 1900 to Jun 1905) was spent in the Coast Guard service in Ireland.
