• Notes

  A Dorset baptism record for Mary Ann Monckton (or surname variations) has not been found to date. Her age varies on early census returns but seems to settle on a year of birth of 1817-1818 in later census and in her death and burial records. Based on the details of her father and witnesses in her 1843 parish marriage record it is possible that she is the daughter of Thomas Munckton and Jane Lydford. In 1841 she is enumerated as a female servant in the Smith household at The Down House, Blandford St Mary, Dorset; John Furmage is in the same household, recorded as a gardener (1841 England census: Class: HO107, Piece: 277, Folio: 8, Page: 10).
