• Notes

  No record of Amy Julia Furmage (or Amy Julia Bassett) has been found following her marriage in 1905 to James R. H. Bassett. In the 1911 England Census, James appears to be enumerated without his wife, although he is recorded as married (28 Macfarlane Road, Shepherd’s Bush, Hammersmith: Class: RG14, Piece: 218, Schedule: 427). It is unclear if Amy is for example visiting elsewhere or in hospital, or if the marriage had failed and Amy and her husband had separated since Amy has not been located in the 1911 England or Wales census nor has a death record been located for her. In his Royal Air Force record (1914-1920) James lists his mother, not his wife, as his next of kin (The National Archives: AIR 79/1146).
