    • Robert Edward Furmage appears to have emigrated to Canada in 1913 arriving in Halifax, Nova Scotia on 08 Mar 1913, his final destination Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (Canada, Incoming Passenger Lists; Library and Archives Canada: RG76, Roll: T-4746; digital image accessed on www.ancestry.co.uk).
      In September 1915, he completed his Attestation Papers for the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force, recording that he was unmarried (Canada “Soldiers of the First World War (1914-1918)”, Record Group 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 4930-35. Library and Archives, Canada; digital image for Robert Edward Furmage accessed on www.ancestry.co.uk). The 1921 Canadian census records him with a wife, Elsie B Furmage but no children (Furmage household, 410 Garnet, Regina, Saskatchewan, Class: RG31, Folder: 160, Page: 36). Based on this evidence, it seems possible that Robert and Elsie married in Canada between September 1915 and June 1921 (the latter is the date of the 1921 census).

      By 1931, Robert and Elsie have two children born in Canada in 1923 and 1926. In 1936 the entire family returned to England (1931 Canada census; England, Incoming Passenger Lists, BT26/1093, The National Archives).
