As no marriage record has been found for Elsie and Robert, Elsie’s maiden name has been derived from her father’s obituary which was published in The Province (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) on Tuesday 12 March 1957, Page 33. Based on this obituary, Elsie’s father was Frederick Doran, born about 1870 in England and he emigrated to Canada in about 1909. It records his surviving relatives as his wife (unnamed), daughter Mrs Elsie Furmage, and son Ernest, in addition to grandchildren and great grandchildren (also unnamed). The Canadian Census for Regina in Saskatchewan for the years 1916, 1926 and 1931 provide details of the family consisting of Frederick Doran (head of household), his wife Sarah, a daughter Elsie and a son Ernest; the ages of Frederick and Sarah both vary to some degree and suggest a later birth year for Frederick in the early 1880s (census digital images accessed on the Library and Archives Canada website).
Following her husband’s death Elsie emigrated to New South Wales, Australia. An obituary for Elsie Beatrice Furmage who died in 1985 in Katoomba is consistent with other details known about Elsie, however the matching death record transcript on the New South Wales government family history website (see citations) names her father as Arthur Benjamin (not Frederick); her mother is named as Sarah.
