• Notes

  George Grandidier joined the Royal Navy in at least October 1851. He was promoted to Clerk on 02 February 1853 and to Paymaster on 13 May 1858. He retired at his own request on 15 November 1884 with the rank of Paymaster in Chief. (The National Archives: ADM 196/75/125 & ADM 196/11/296). He was a widower at the time of his marriage to Alice Furmage in 1886.
