• Notes

  Alfred was a widower at the time of his marriage to Elsie Furmage. He had previously married Jessie Hill in Scotland in 1891 (Statutory Marriage Index, District: Linlithgow, Scotland, Reference: 668/49; transcript accessed on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk). In 1924 he was a prisoner at Mountjoy Prison, Dublin, Ireland, serving a 6 month sentence for obtaining food, lodging and motor cars by false pretences (General Register of Prisoners, November 1924, The National Archives of Ireland, Dublin; digital image accessed on www.ancestry.co.uk). He returned to Scotland where he died in 1941. It is unclear if he moved back after the death of Elsie in 1929 or beforehand.
